About Me and My Firm

I'm Steve Goldstein, Owner and Principal of the SBG Retirement Solutions practice at Blank Slate Financial.

I am originally from New York City, born and raised in the Bronx. After college and graduate school in upstate New York, I returned to the city, got married, and eventually moved to the suburbs. I started my career in publishing, then spent several years in staff and management roles in corporate financial planning and analysis for a Fortune 500 telecommunications company.

A promotion brought me to the Atlanta metro area, where my wife, Beth, and I settled in Alpharetta with our two young children. Despite moving steadily up the corporate ladder during this time, I knew deep down that I wanted to do something different with my career in the finance industry.

In 2002, I transitioned into financial services as an employee financial advisor with a large, well-known firm. I immediately connected with personal financial planning: the work felt more meaningful, and my finance background helped me learn quickly. While I felt good about the knowledge I was gaining on my own, I took the time to earn my CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ (CFP®) designation in 2006 to deepen my expertise further.

I joined what is now Blank Slate Financial in December 2008 as an independent affiliate, shortly after the firm was founded as oXYGen Financial. I had worked with the two founders before, admired their leadership, and believed in their vision for the new firm.

After about a decade helping clients facing a wide range of financial issues and concerns, I decided to focus my practice on retirement income planning. I began working primarily with individuals and couples in their mid‑50s and beyond whose main concerns were around retirement timing and navigating the financial decisions they’d face throughout retirement.

The mission of my practice became and continues to be helping clients feel confident that their needs in retirement are covered, so they can truly enjoy the later chapters of their lives. To further my knowledge and reinforce that commitment, I completed the Retirement Income Certified Professional® (RICP®) program, a then‑new designation from The American College of Financial Services, and became one of its first recipients in 2013.

Now in my 24th year in this profession, I feel a deep sense of responsibility to my clients and have no plans to retire anytime soon. My children now have families of their own, and I’m a proud “boy grampy” to four young grandsons. I feel fortunate to have a great family and to be doing work I genuinely enjoy.

When I’m not working, I enjoy playing classic rock and blues guitar, exercising, watching my favorite sports teams, and tackling do-it-yourself home projects. I like to think I’m a pretty good handyman, but I have to admit I’m merely a mediocre guitar player.

About Blank Slate Financial

Blank Slate Financial evolved from oXYGen Financial, Inc., which was founded in 2008 by Kile Lewis and Ted Jenkin. The firm grew significantly in its 18 years of existence with a strong reputation and clients nationwide. After Ted sold his personal practice a few years ago and later decided to pursue other ventures, Kile became the firm’s sole owner and changed the name to Blank Slate Financial.

Why “Blank Slate?” A blank slate is defined as ‘something with no existing restraints, something that can be freely developed’.

For us, that idea is centered on you. This isn’t about erasing the past. The experiences, relationships, and work that brought you to this point all matter—and they continue to inform the decisions ahead. But at a certain point, financial planning becomes less about accumulation and more about intention.

Blank Slate reflects the opportunity to step back and thoughtfully determine how you want to allocate your time, your treasure, and your talent moving forward. Not based on default paths, outside expectations, or outdated assumptions, but based on what is most meaningful to you.

Our role is to help bring clarity to those decisions, align your resources accordingly, and support you in building a plan that reflects the life you want to live.
